With an inspiration from our ancestors and our personal convictions, we the sons and daughters of Obanta of Ijebu are proud of our heritage and totally committed to the progress of our people. We have come together to form an association of our indigenes residing in the States of Maryland, Virginia and in Washington DC, The District of Columbia, for the purpose of furthering our aspiration of cultural, socio-political, economical and technological advancement of our people. To fulfill our obligations to our homeland and share our proud heritage with our youth in particular and the world in general. We will be good ambassadors of our people, enriched with the knowledge of our heritage and committed to the betterment of humanity in general.

MISSION
The Mission and objectives of Omo Obanta Association of Ijebu-Ode shall be as follows:
1. To foster enviable unity and understanding amongst the Omo Obanta Association of Ijebu-Ode living in the United States.
2. To keep abreast of major developments and encourage economic growth in our motherland.
3. To encourage the legitimate pursuit of the American Dream and discourage all illegal acts, in order to uphold high moral standards of our fore-parents.
4. To serve as a source of support and inspiration to members in troubled times.
5. To strive and enhance the well being of our people through the use of technology, cultural awareness and education for the purpose of self- empowerment.
The motto of Omo Obanta Association of Ijebu-Ode shall be:
“Unity, Industry, Service and Progress.”
Unity: Our purpose is to come together as one to develop our motherland. It is our belief that we can achieve a lot more as a whole rather than as individuals.
Industry: We believe in industry, self motivation, hard work and entrepreneurship. It is our belief that self efforts and free market are the engines of growth in an economy and the path to technological progress and advancement.
Service: We believe it is our civic duty and moral obligation to always give back to our society. We believe in promoting dedication and selflessness to the society as a way of advancing the society in general.
Progress: It is our belief that a progressive society shall never die. Through education and technological advancement, we will be able to create a better future for our children. Following the economic “Golden Rule,” we can leave a steady-state capital formations and sustainable economic growth for the future generations.

THE EXECUTIVE BOARD
SECTION 1: The Executive Board shall comprise of the following:
President
Vice president
General-Secretary
Assistant General-Secretary
Treasurer
Financial Secretary
Social Secretary
Welfare Secretary
Cultural Secretary
Publicity Secretary
Ex-Officio Members: Immediate Past President
Governor General
SECTION 2: POWER AND DUTIES OF THE EXECUTIVE BOARD
1. The Executive Board shall be responsible for:
(a) Conducting the administration and management of the Omo
Obanta Association of Ijebu-Ode, within the overall policy laid
down by the general assembly.
(b) Maintenance of all assets belonging to the Omo Obanta
Association of Ijebu-Ode.
(c) The control of matters of policy, finance, and general conduct of
the Omo Obanta Association of Ijebu-Ode and matters of dispute.
(d) Authorization or otherwise of Sectional Activities subject to
ratification by the General Assembly.
2. The Executive Board shall meet as and when necessary but not less frequently than once per month and seven (7) clear days notice of meeting with Agenda shall be forwarded to each of its members.
3. The president or Vice president, the General-Secretary or the Assistant General-Secretary shall be part of the Quorum in accordance with the Article X Section 5a.
SECTION 3: PRESIDENT
Whenever possible, the President shall preside over all meetings and supervise the work of other officers and Committees. He shall be head of the Executives responsible for directing the affairs of the Association at all times.
SECTION 4: VICE PRESDIENT
The Vice President shall assist and deputize for the President in his absence. He shall be Chairperson for the Membership and Disciplinary Committee.
SECTION 5: GENERAL-SECRETARY
The General Secretary shall be responsible for coordinating and administering the affairs of the organization. This will include, amongst other: the convening of all meetings, giving notices of such meetings to all members, acting as the main link between the appointed Committees and officers, and between the Association and Persons.
SECTION 6: ASSISTANT GENERAL-SECRETARY
The Assistant General-Secretary shall assist the General Secretary in his official duties and deputize in his or her absence at meetings.
SECTION 7: TREASURER
The treasurer shall be responsible for the funds of the Association. He shall handle all expenditure. He shall be the chief custodian of the Association’s properties. He shall be responsible for preparing the Association’s Annual Budget and Financial Statements. He shall issue receipts for Funds collected from Financial Secretary and deposit the same (funds) in the Association’s bank account promptly. He shall be the chairperson for theFinance Committee.
SECTION 8: FINANCIAL SECRETARY
The Financial Secretary shall collect fund for the Association, issue receipts and hand over the money to the treasurer for deposit to the Association’s bank account. He shall reconcile the Association’s bank accounts (monthly accounts) for all funds collected. He shall serve as Secretary to the Finance Committee. He shall present quarterly financial reports of the Association to the general members.
SECTION 9: SOCIAL SECRETARY
The Social Secretary shall organize and direct all social undertakings of the Association. Such events shall include (but not limited to) the ones on the social calendar, Article XII, of this constitution.
SECTION 10: WELFARE SECRETARY
The Welfare Secretary shall be responsible for channeling ways of alleviating members’ personal problems, and such external cases considered from time to time to be of interest to the Organization. He shall see the overall welfare of the members making sure that adequate visitations are maintained within the club members, and shall report to the President where applicable.
SECTION 11: CULTURAL SECRETARY
He shall be the Curator and Protector of our cultural heritage. He shall serve to preserve our culture. He shall promote cultural awareness among the General Members, especially our children. He shall educate and coordinate activities to promote our culture within the community and world in general.
SECTION 12: PUBLICITY SECRETARY
He shall serves as the Public Relation Officer of the Association. He shall publicize, advertise and promote the Organization’s activities to the community and world in general.
SECTION 13: EX-OFFICIO MEMBERS
Ex-Officio Members shall be non-voting. Immediate past President or Vice President (if the former is unavailable), shall be nominated by the Executive and ratified by members. The Governor-General shall also serve in an ex-officio capacity on the Executive Board.
ARTICLE VIII
SECTION 1: ADVISORY BOARD
The Advisory Board shall provide general advice to the Association from time to time. It Shall be composed of the Governor-General and all patrons as contained in Sections 2 to 4 below.
SECTION 2: GOVERNOR-GENERAL
The Executive Board, subject to ratification of the General Assembly, shall nominate a member to serve as Governor-General for a period of twelve months.
The Governor-General:
I. Shall oversee the Association in relation to the outside world.
II. Shall channel the Association towards a peaceful resolve during times of crisis
III. Shall formulate a system of unifying the broad spectrum along and across the
members.
IV. Shall consult with Executive Board especially the President from time to time on general matters of the Association.
V. Shall swear in the NEWLY ELECTED EXECUTIVE OFFICERS.
SECTION 2b: PARLIAMENTARIAN
The President (or Executives), subject to ratification of the General Assembly, shall nominate a member to serve as a Parliamentarian. The Parliamentarian shall be responsible for:
1. Interpreting rules and maintaining protocols among members during the meetings,
2. Maintaining orderliness, and recognition of speaker during the meetings. In the absence of the Parliamentarian, the President shall appoint any other person to act in that capacity.
SECTION 2c: SERGEANT-AT-ARMS
The President (or Executives), subject to ratification of the General Assembly, shall nominate a member to serve as a Sergeant-at-arms. The Sergeant-at-arms shall be responsible for enforcing rules and compliance among members.
SECTION 3: GRAND PATRON
The Association shall also appoint Patrons. The number of patrons shall be determined by the members at the general meeting. The Executive may recommend a Patron for removal if his public conduct is considered to be an embarrassment and demeaning to the image of the Association. Such a move shall require an extra ordinary resolution (Article X, Section 5b).
SECTION 4: ROYAL PATRONS
The Awujale of Ijebu Land and the Olisa of Ijebu-Ode shall be honored as Royal Patrons of the Association.
ARTICLE IX
COMMITTEES
SECTION 1: The committees of the council shall be divided into two categories:
(1) STANDING and (2) AD-HOC
SECTION 2: STANDING
I. FINANCE COMMITTEE: Shall advice the General Assembly on Financial matters.
II. AUDIT COMMITTEE: Shall be responsible for performing both Operational and Financial audits of the Association not less than twice a year.
